What is Botox® Made Of?

Have you started to notice wrinkles and fine lines forming on your forehead? Are your crow’s feet starting to become a little more noticeable?

If so, it may be time to consider Botox® injections.

Since the late 90s, Botox® has been one of the most popular anti-aging injectables available on the market. This FDA-approved injection is touted for its ability to smooth forehead wrinkles, ease the appearance of crow’s feet, and even help make frown lines between the eyebrows less noticeable.

But how exactly does Botox® accomplish this? What is Botox® made of?

Let’s take a look!

What is Botox® Made of?

Botox® is made of a safe derivative of botulinum toxin  – and while it may sound scary, it’s actually a naturally occurring compound that helps to interrupt the brain’s signals to nerve endings in the injected muscles.

Here’s why that’s important: Many of the lines and wrinkles on our upper facial regions come from repetitive facial gestures and expressions. For example, frown lines often occur with repeated squinting or brow furrowing, while forehead lines appear with repetitive eyebrow movements. Crow’s feet tend to appear as a result of squinting, eye rubbing, and more.

Botox® works to interrupt the brain’s signals to the muscles to engage in that repetitive, often unconscious movement. As a result, the muscles relax, creating a softer and smoother appearance on the surface of the skin.

That means Botox® candidates can expect to see:

  • Less prominent wrinkles and lines
  • Softer, younger-looking skin
  • Less visible crow’s feet
  • Reduced frown lines
  • And more

The results can last up to four months; more experienced Botox® users can expect their results to last up to six months.
