Lip Enhancement FAQs
What is lip enhancement?
Lip enhancement is a cosmetic procedure that augments both the size and the shape of your lips. Using injections of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers Tosyal and Restylane, the patient’s lips will be fuller and a shape more to the patient’s liking.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally all throughout your body. The injections use a specially sterilized type of hyaluronic acid to minimize the chance of an allergic reaction.
How is the filler administered?
The lip fillers can be given gradually over several treatments to ensure that the results meet the patient’s desired look. If there is scheduled time in between the treatments, both the patient and the doctor will have an opportunity to review the results.
Is the procedure painful?
The discomfort of the procedure is minimal. We use a topical numbing cream to help numb the area being treated. The fillers themselves also contain a local anesthetic, reducing the amount of sensitivity. Our providers’ experienced and gentle hand insures an overall comfortable treatment experience.
Will my lips turn out lumpy?
This is a common concern with lip enhancement treatments, but patients do not need to worry. By using our advanced lip injection techniques, there is a low risk of having lumps following the procedure. Since dermal fillers are made to make the lips look natural, they work with the patient’s natural lip structure, creating a smooth and well-hydrated appearance.
Do both lips have to be enhanced?
A patient’s desired appearance is a very individual decision. Some patients do not want both lips enhanced or even an entire lip enhanced at their treatment appointment. The area or lip that is desired to be enhanced will be where the focus of the treatment is.
What are the side effects of a lip enhancement?
The best side effect is that the patient will leave with fuller and more desirable lips. There may be some swelling following the procedure that will go away quickly. There is also a risk of bruising from the injections, but our use of ice following the procedure will help to prevent that. Any bruising that does appear at the injection sites will disappear in a few days following the procedure.
