How Can I Get Rid of Hyperpigmentation or Melasma?

If you suffer from hyperpigmentation or melasma, you may feel that the only thing people see when they look at you are the dark spots that dot your complexion. And whether those spots are the results of sun damage or genetics, there’s one goal you have on your mind:

You want to get rid of them, so you can feel confident about your skin again!

Here at Yaletown Laser Centre, we take a three-step approach to helping our patients get rid of hyperpigmentation and melasma symptoms. Let’s take a closer look at the process now.

Step 1: Treat with Photorejuvenation.

Photorejuvenation is a light-based therapy that breaks down the darker pigments that attribute to the appearance of hyperpigmentation and melasma. We use Gentle Max technology to target the darker pigments; over time and with enough sessions, the pigment is absorbed into the skin, leaving behind a clearer-looking complexion.

Step 2: Renew Skin with the Advanced Picoway Fractional Laser Resurfacing.

Once your hyperpigmentation has begun to fade, we accelerate the process by using Fractional Laser Resurfacing treatments. This procedure gently removes the top layer of dermal tissue (where damage is most obvious), while simultaneously encouraging collagen and elastin production within the subdermal tissue. At Yaletown Laser Centre, we use the advanced Picoway technology, a gentler non-thermal laser which works with acoustic technology to deliver exceptional results with an easier process and minimal downtown to create an even-toned complexion, firmer skin, and fewer wrinkles and fine lines.

Step 3: Maintain Results at Home with Medical Skin Care.

To help continue all of your great progress, we recommend that our patients invest in medical-grade skincare products to maintain results at home. We feature ZO skincare products, a line developed by dermatologists and designed to protect skin while fading the symptoms of hyperpigmentation, ageing, and more. For clients with more sensitive skin types, we feature Image Skin Care, a more holistic line developed by a plastic surgeon from natural ingredients.
