How Do Lip Injections Work
There are three elements to this question: firstly, what are the dermal fillers that are used in lip injections? Next, how do they work? And lastly, how does the treatment process work? In this post, we’ll consider these questions and try to provide the answers you’re looking for.
What are dermal fillers?
With skilful placement, dermal fillers will do exactly what their name implies: plumping up sunken skin and reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The concept is completely different to that of Botox, and some people combine both dermal fillers and Botox to maximize results.
Dermal fillers fall into two primary groups: naturally-derived fillers and synthetic fillers. There are upsides and downsides to both, but natural ones, such as Juvederm or Restylane, which are based on Hyaluronic Acid, a compound naturally found in the human body, are less likely to trigger an allergic reaction. The synthetics, on the other hand, last longer.
Dermal fillers are not permanent. A skin care professional will be able to explain which fillers would be recommended for you, and how long you can expect them to last.
How do dermal fillers work in lip injections?
There are two primary reasons why dermal fillers are suited to lip injection enhancements:
- They plump up thin or sunken lips
- They can remove fine wrinkles around the lips
If you never had full lips, you may wish you had them, and if you once had full lips, you will find that they diminish in fullness over time. As human beings, we instinctively respond positively to full lips because the connection between youthfulness and full lips is embedded in our subconscious mind.
You can choose to have your upper, lower, or both lips plumped up. If you’re not sure what you want, discuss it with your cosmetic surgeon to get ideas as to what will work best with your face.
Procedure and aftereffects
The injections themselves aren’t particularly painful (sometimes, a topical anaesthetic is used), and the procedure takes just a few minutes. But just because it’s quick doesn’t mean it’s easy to administer correctly. Choose a dermatologist or a skin care professional who is experienced in lip injection techniques. There’s something of an art to it. Botched lip injections aren’t permanent, thank goodness, but you don’t want to go there!
After your lip injection treatment, you can go on with life as usual, but there is likely to be some bruising, so don’t expect to see the full effect of the final result for a couple of days. Your lips don’t feel any different afterwards. The dermal filler doesn’t affect sensation in any noticeable way, so you can still enjoy a kiss as much as you did before.
If you’re considering lip augmentation surgery, you can use lip injections to test the possible result
Ultimately, you might prefer a more permanent solution, but before you make changes that will require surgery to reverse if you don’t like them, you can test out your new look with lip injections.
