Laser Hair Removal
This procedure is an efficient and popular treatment used to eliminate unwanted facial and body hair on a permanent basis. While some hairs cannot be eliminated entirely, patients can expect about 70% to 90% hair reduction after 6 to 8 treatments on average; Any remaining hair is finer and lighter in color.
Tanning and all hair removal processes, such as threading, electrolysis, plucking and waxing, should be avoided for two to six weeks (depending on area and individual growth) prior to the treatment. Shaving is encouraged! Treatments are generally scheduled 4-8 weeks apart depending on the growth cycle of the particular area.
During treatment, a device is used to target and eliminate actively growing hair follicles in a process called photothermolysis. This process inhibits growth of active hairs and often the growth of new ones. As results depend upon the patient’s skin, hair color and coarseness, those with light-colored skin and dark hair have the most effective results with the least number of treatments because the light can easily target the pigmentation of the follicle.
Your skin may be slightly pink and feel warm for a few hours after the treatment. Hair will look as though it is growing normally after shaving, but is actually slowly being purged from the body over a 1-3 week process and should be noticeable by little to no growth at a certain point. Waxing, plucking, electrolysis, bleaching cream and tanning should be avoided during the healing process as well throughout the course of treatments.
